“The ability to think differently is essential for both artistic and social growth. Opera, with its profound impact on emotions and thought, has the power to drive change by nurturing imagination. I am deeply interested in exploring the intersection between philosophy and human experience through opera. Alongside my work as a choral conductor and director, I write regularly on music and aim to further develop this literary aspect in my operatic ideas.
At one point, I defined myself by the number of countries I’d lived in (six and counting!). Then, I swapped planes for philosophy, and Camus became more important than Khartoum. Perhaps he’s onto something and (my!) life is absurd: csárdás and cats, mambas and meditation, with a little Muay Thai.”
