The Rape of Lucretia

Our 2024 summer programmes finished with four performances of The Rape of Lucretia in the depth of Rotherhithe’s Thames Tunnel shaft. It was a blast – The Guardian gave it four stars and called it ‘physically shattering’. The Stage followed suit, calling it ‘mesmerising’.

Sixteen singers, two directors, three conductors/repetiteurs, one designer, four stage managers and two costume assistants all worked together with mentors and professional tutors to grow their skills and start building their professional careers. And with networking opportunities and some of the UK’s biggest industry figures attending final performances, we know all of our participants are set to make a splash in the UK opera scene.

And the total cost to take part? Zero pounds. In fact, we give maintainance grants to all participants, with additional funding and accomodation offered to those who need it. Which makes BYO a completely unique offering in the UK. If you’re interested in supporting our programme and keeping them open and accessible, drop us a line!
