Peter Grimes

Whispers, judgments, and accusations swirl around a tight-knit English fishing village. A fisherman’s apprentice is dead and Peter Grimes, the boy’s employer, is in the frame.

Benjamin Britten’s landmark opera is the story of a man isolated between the cruel gossip of the local village and the savagery of the open sea. Celebrating 80 years since its premiere, we’re pairing up with Cambridge Philharmonic for this semi-staged performance.

Established names in the three key roles (including tenor Mark Le Brocq’s first time tackling the role of Peter Grimes) are joined by the next generation of opera professionals from BYO’s advanced summer programme as well as the Cambridge Philharmonic chorus.
