Cultural Enterpise awards
Our summer production of The Rape of Lucretia has been shortlisted in the best event category at the Cultural Enterprise Awards.
The Cultural Enterprise Awards celebrate ‘inspirational talent, innovation and success in cultural income generation’, so its a real thrill to be shortlisted in their ‘best event’ category.
Our production of Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia at Rotherhithe’s Brunel Museum Thames Tunnel Shaft was really well-received last summer (The Guardian gave it four stars and called it ‘physically shattering’ and The Stage followed suit, calling it ‘mesmerising’) so its fantastic to have the recognition still trickling in.
For the first time in our history it was created and performed entirely by our participants – sixteen singers, two directors, three conductors/repetiteurs, one designer, four stage managers and two costume assistants all worked together with mentors and professional tutors to grow their skills and start building their professional careers. And with networking opportunities and some of the UK’s biggest industry figures attending final performances, we know all of our participants are already reaping the benefits of their time with us.
And the total cost to take part? Zero pounds. In fact, we give maintainance grants to all participants, with additional funding and accomodation offered to those who need it. Which makes this programme a completely unique offering in the UK. If you’re interested in supporting our programme and keeping them open and accessible, drop us a line!
