the big reveal – our 2022 creative team

It’s a big moment for us at BYO - we’re now able to tell you the creative brains behind this summers’ production of Sir John in Love. But our director, designer, conductor and lighting designer aren’t just responsible for bringing the show to life - they’re also the mentors and coaches behind many of our summer training programmes.

Marit Strindlund, conductor

Marit lives in Sweden where she’s music director at Folkoperan Opera House in Stockholm, and she also works all across Europe conducting operas and orchestral concerts. Marit will be mentoring the trainee repetiteurs and conductors on our music staff programme and play an important part in the coaching of our singers’ programme. Find out more about her here.

Harry Fehr, director

Harry initially studied philosophy before starting his career as a director. He was on the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme where he was revival, associate or assistant director on over twenty productions for the Royal Opera. Harry will be looking after our opera directing programme and work closely with participants on our singers’ programme. Find out more about him here.

Nate Gibson, designer

Nate is a designer and maker with experience working for stage (including a lot of opera) and screen. He studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and in New York. He’ll be mentoring participants on our set and costume design programme. Find out more about him here.

Chuma Emembolu, lighting designer

Chuma started his career at the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he discovered his enthusiasm and eye for lighting design. He doesn’t just work in opera, and designs lighting for circus, theatre, music, opera, musicals and dance around the world. Chuma will be working closely with multiple programmes across our summer season. Find out more about him here.
